Honda Civic launch date has been officially confirmed as March 7, 2019. Customers can book the car against a sum of Rs. 31,000. The last generation Honda Civic was discontinued in India in 2013 due to poor sales and unavailability of a diesel engine. Also, the car was a bit too tight for Indian road conditions and often witnessed underbody wear and tear on potholes and speed breakers.
The new Honda Civic which is about to launch in India is in its 10th generation. It boasts a lot of modern and futuristic features along with a better ground clearance and road presence. This time it is also arriving with a diesel engine option along with the petrol unit. The upcoming Honda Civic will carry a 1.8 litre i-VTEC petrol engine that will churn out 141 PS of power @ 6,500 rpm and 174 Nm of torque @ 4,300 rpm mated to a CVT transmission. On the other hand, the diesel engine is a 1.6 litre i-DTEC unit producing 120 PS of power @ 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 2,000 rpm mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Both the engines are BSVI enabled and comply with the latest emission norms.
The claimed fuel efficiency of petrol and diesel engines is 16.5 kmpl and 26.8 kmpl respectively. That makes it more efficient that Honda City diesel by 1.2 kmpl.
Once launched, this car will compete with Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra, and Toyota Corolla Altis. With that said, it will carry a price tag of Rs. 18 Lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs. Though, at this price point, people have some good options in other segments as well. Like the newly introduced Tata Harrier and the sophisticated Jeep Compass are among the modern trends, but executive sedans have still has a lot of life, specially for enthusiasts.
