The surprising Honda Civic prices are because of a few cost effective parameters. The new Honda Civic engine is the same unit which powered the old version of the car. The Indian version of 1.8 liter engine produces 138 bhp @ 6500 rpm and 173 Nm of torque @ 4300 rpm. The diesel engine is a 1.6-liter unit which produces 118 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm. The petrol engine comes mated to a 6-speed CVT while the diesel motor has a 6-speed manual transmission. International markets offer this car with a 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol unit which produces better power (174 bhp) than the one we received. (Scroll down for price chart)

Out of the two engines, the petrol engine is the real charm to drive and offers great response to the driver’s command. It is a sheer pleasure to drive this car but the inclusion of a manual transmission would have made enthusiasts love it.

The diesel engine offers a decent drive, though it is not as refined as the competition where Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia are still leading the game. But the big catch here is the mileage.

Honda Civic diesel engine returns a fuel efficiency of 26.8 kmpl which is segment best and has a good value to your money. With such good mileage, an automatic transmission would have boosted up the sales in good numbers.
